It begins with a calm, professional voice on the phone:
"Good evening, I’m calling from Microsoft. Your computer has a virus. We need to fix it before it spreads.""Please install AnyDesk or TeamViewer so I can help."
What happens next isn’t a virus removal. It’s theft. By the time you realize it’s a scam — your money, identity, and files could all be gone.
What Is a Remote Access Scam?
Remote Access Scams happen when a fraudster pretends to be a tech support agent and convinces you to install remote control software (like:
AnyDesk
TeamViewer
QuickSupport
Zoho Assist
Once installed, they gain control of your system — just like an online robber entering your digital home.
What They Do Once Inside
Log into your bank account pretending to “test it”
Transfer money while distracting you
Install malware to steal passwords
Access your webcam, personal photos, documents
Real Case:
A businessman in Bengaluru received a call from a person claiming to be “Windows Security.” They asked him to install AnyDesk “to remove a serious virus.”He followed instructions. By the time he got off the call, ₹1.5 lakh was gone from his bank account.
How They Sound Legit
They say “your system is sending error reports”
Use technical words like "malware," "firewall breach"
Sound urgent but polite
May even give you a fake “support ID” to sound real
How to Stay Safe
Never give remote access to anyone you don’t personally know
Microsoft, Apple, Google never call you unless you request support
Don’t install apps like AnyDesk/TeamViewer unless you trust the person
If in doubt, hang up and call the official tech support number
Use strong passwords, antivirus, and a password manager
Conclusion
In the old days, thieves broke into homes. Today, they log into your laptop with your permission — pretending to fix it.Don’t fall for the voice of “tech support.” Stay alert. Disconnect. Verify.
